We're looking for a new housemate for an empty room in our home! Prospect Park neighborhood in Minneapolis, walking distance to University of Minnesota campus. Rent for the room is $652.50 per month plus utilities (gas, electricity, & internet). Rent plus utilities usually is about $800 per month total. It's a room in an upstairs of a duplex in an old house with lots of old hardwood floors. The basement is shared with the neighbor where we have free laundry, lots of storage space, & I have an olympic weight set with bench & squat rack that we share. Beautiful old house right in the middle of the Prospect Park neighborhood (1 block from tower hill park, 2 blocks from University Ave, light trail stations, & Fresh Thyme grocery. It's the upstairs of a duplex. The downstairs neighbor is a friend who has been there for years (we've been here much longer) & we are friends with all the neighbors & lots of people in the neighborhood. We're the kind of block where people watch each other's houses when people go on trips, etcetera. about us: I'm a 49-year-old musician, community organizer, & nonprofit administrator & my son is a 17-year-old high school senior this fall (he's also a musician, runs track, does school band & drama, & is an "A" honor roll student). We're leftists who are involved in community projects & local politics, so no conservatives or anyone close to that because we simply will not get along. "Free Palestine we love immigrants, we have tons of queer & trans friends but we are not judgemental weirdos who don't get along with normal working class people (we dislike some of those folks judgementalism as much as we dislike MAGA & billionaires). I served as an international officer of the Industrial Workers of the World for many years & am very involved in community organizing around working-class solidarity. My son & I are in a band that performs around town often & tours around the region & country a handful of times a year we're very connected to the local art & music community. I work from home running Community Driven, it's a very small nonprofit so there's only a few very part time employees that come into the house during the day, but this is a thing. Common space is basically made quiet around 9-ish every night so anyone who needs to sleep can, so if you're living a late-night party lifestyle this probably isn't the right place. We also house-sit my son's mother's dog often (a big super quiet & friendly mutt that looks like a scary german shepherd, but is a total sweetheart & super smart), so you have to be ok with dogs. No smoking on the property (even in the yard), but 420 inside is ok & I have Crohns disease & use marijuana medicinally so you have to be 420 friendly. I rarely drink (maybe a drink once every 4 months), don't care if you do but it can't be a big loud partying kind of thing. We like to keep the place clean, but not ridiculous. We live our lives, have fun, & just clean up after ourselves. We're looking for a new housemate for an empty room in our home!
