    What's special

This property is a beautiful, very special place that has been lovingly cared for by its current owner since 1980. The over 100-year-old farmhouse & property is bordered by the Hoosier National Forest (HNF) in southern Monroe County. Located a few miles south of Lake Monroe and the Hardin Ridge and Allen’s Creek recreation areas on a dead-end road, quiet abounds. Step out the door and walk down the road to access miles of hiking in the HNF. The Deam Wilderness area is just a short drive away. There is a large deer-fenced garden area that has been organically gardened for at least 10 years. The garden has 4 apple trees, 9 blueberry bushes, and established strawberry and asparagus beds. A water line has been run to the garden. The house retains some of its historic charm with some original cabinets and car-siding on the walls of the eat-in kitchen. Hardwood floors in living room and bedrooms, vinyl flooring in kitchen. The house has 200 amp electrical service, and an energy efficient, geothermal heat pump was installed in 2009, and energy-efficient entry doors (with storms), and Anderson windows throughout as part of a remodel in 2005. The wrap-around porch offers solitude and great views for drinking your morning coffee, evening beverages, and watching birds and summer thunderstorms. A 24 X 32 oversized garage, built by the Amish in 2014, has room for a small workshop. The garage is partially insulated and has 100 amp electrical service and lots of outlets. Upstairs, the second floor of the garage has great storage space for all those essentials you just can’t part with. There is a 10 X 16 foot outbuilding for additional storage, and best of all, an outdoor wood-fired sauna for relaxing on chilly days. Electric service is underground, so no unsightly utility poles or overhead wires are near the house. Twenty-three acres of the property are enrolled in DNR’s Classified Forest Program (CFP), which reduces property taxes, and there are tax consequences for removing the property from the CFP. The gas range and refrigerator remain with the house. With a full-price deal, sellers will issue a $2500 check to buyer for any remodeling project, and leave the stacked washer and dryer with the house (new in 2015).

This property is off market, which means it's not currently listed for sale or rent on Zillow. This may be different from what's available on other websites or public sources.
