Nontraditional work exchange The Space: Affectionately called "the treehouse", its a 250 square foot loft studio with ladder ascent, full size shower, complete kitchen, porch, towel heater, laundry + parking on site. Massive glass slider covers one wall and looks out onto Nisene Marks forest. It could come as furnished as a small space can (couch, turntable, espresso machine, dish-ware + kitchen amenities) but that's flexible. It is a detached building and shares the property with main house tenants (family of 4 with a cat and small dog) so you will see each other in passing, and the front doors face each other and are approx 25ft apart. With a feel of nature immersion, you're still a walking distance to the New Leaf + Penny Ice Creamery in Aptos Village :) Currently available June 1 - August 3rd. The Vision: I built out this studio and care for the property, so am hoping to have someone stay this summer while I am away to both support and be supported by our sanctuary. Reductions in rent would be in fair exchange for hours of time spent on site. Tasks could include but are not limited to: forest abatement, weed whacking, tree pruning, fascia board replacement, tile work, being point person for contractors when needed, mural painting, outdoor sculpture making, childcare for the primary family, etc etc. Whatever your skill set is, we could probably exchange! I am seeking someone with integrity, self-motivation and curiosity, as I am not interested in micro-managing or being deceived in this process. It may involve you identifying things that could be done, as fresh eyes always see differently and I don't intend to leave a long honey-do list. Rental price would be relative to hours worked and would look as follows: 0 hours : $1800/mo (market. value) 5 hrs / week : $1300/mo 10 hrs / week : $800/mo 15 hrs / week: $300/mo (less than the cost of utilities) June 1 2026 - August 3 2026 (at present) with rent determined by interest and willingness to exchange work hours on the property.
