The best way to respond is on Craigslist to this ad. I have shared my phone number for further transparency. There are a lot of ads that end up being scams. If you decide to contact me by phone, greater success will be had if you text me. Because I work so often, I cannot answer a good measure of phones calls I receive. -no dogs, unfortunately. Cats, chickens, ducks, yard-goats, turtles, snakes, and fish considered. ________________________________________ Available for rent on May 1st, 2026 (or sooner), the upstairs portion of my house, which includes a private stairwell entry and private entrance, a common room of your own with two private bedrooms of your own (500 sq. ft), as well as 715 sq. ft. of communal space downstairs including a large living room, a reading room, and a very spacious kitchen, 1 and 1/2 baths, laundry , and an expansive front and back yard, as well on-site parking. The common spaces are tidy, furnished, and decorated respectively: Something tame, something wild. The backyard borders alpacas who occasionally visit the backyard for feeding on the tall grass in the spring and summer months, and when the neighbor feels like being social , and will walk them over in tow. The forest all but pours into our small valley that I share with five other homes on the gravel road we live on. We neighbors have been friends for years. Expect some rogue ducks and chickens and a neighbor dog, who all roam freely across the meridians of our yards. Neighbors are kind and social without being nosy. Frogs and raptors live here, and the fields that surround us are in a tense dance of being cultivated and remaining wild. (I dare say my own yard tends to be more wild than tame. Have you a green thumb and a yearning for garden space?). Farmers occupy the acreage to the North, West, and immediate South. Everything and everyone in our small ecological 'hood move with the slight parlance of unhurried breath. On Thursdays, bluegrass might be heard being performed but a small parlance from my backyard fire pit, where my neighbors gather around their own to pluck quietly in the evening air. Time moves differently and slower here. Here, you would be never further than a six minute's unhurried drive to either Eureka or Arcata, where the likely need for commerce and work are closer than it feels. If you need a quick grocery item, there are two small markets each less than a mile away to the north and the south, and you will quickly make friends with the merchants and call them by their first name, as they will quickly do with you. Like most of the architecture in this small universe we live within between the two central county towns, my house was built in the late 19th century, and comes less equipped with some of the finer trappings of 21st century living. Yes, there is heat, but it isn't central, nor is the house well insulated. Living here means discovering you have a favorite house-sweater that you wear in the winter months. There is a gas fireplace that warms the common areas efficiently and offers a homey and fiery glow, but at a price for the gas it consumes, and the heat does not reach the extremities of the house. In this regard, you will want to be slightly hardier than those in the city are in the winter months. The house is channeled with exceptionally clean well-water, and internet is available with a very strong signal. The house also has large expansive windows that look out and capture the natural wonder that abounds immediately beyond them and fills the house with an abundance of natural light. The kitchen is more than sizable, and offers more cabinet space than I know what to fill with; there is a bar-nook that serves as a window between the living room and the kitchen and is a great place to have breakfast or dinner. The oven range is gas. If you like cooking, you will quickly discover that the kitchen will more than greet you with counter space aplenty to stretch out your enterprise. For those with a green thumb, there is ample space in the back and front yard for potential gardening. Indeed, given that this is a 'town-and-country' home, all of the neighbors that immediately surround me on our road garden and farm themselves. As for myself, I am an active 53 year old male who busies himself professionally as a builder. I have a five year old daughter that lives out of state, but visits with me for the summer and the common breaks from school during the rest of the year. I proudly keep a tidy and artsy household and otherwise enjoy the quietude that the environs here provide in the evenings and on the weekends when I am not at work. I enjoy the quiet rapture that living and caring for a house and land here provide, and have a few friends that visit in the early evenings on occasion. And you, fair seeker of a secure living situation? If you held on this long through paragraphs of wander and are still reading, did the aggregate of my post draw interest and favorable curiosity? If so, I am happy to meet you. I have not the urgency to rent out my space to the first inquiry (unless of course we connect that quickly) and am inspired by a natural acquaintance and opportunity to meet the right person and explore the fit before we commit. Ultimately, I am looking for someone financially secure and at a point in their life where what is offered here resonates. Diversity is a celebrated a priori; so the best candidate will also be flexible, communicative, easy going, creative, independent, and kind. Eccentricity is always welcomed. If this sounds like a fit for you, send me an email here describing some of yourself. I will make an effort to respond as quickly as possible. Thank you for your time and interest.
