Known as the Earl Bennett House, as many early Midland houses were known by the families who owned them, the Bennetts lived here from 1917 until Mrs Bennetts death in 1978. Built in 1917 the house is the largest example of an Alden Dow remodeling. 1935, Mr Dow was commissioned to remodel and enlarge the house which continued till approximately 1940. It ultimately doubled in size incorporating the open porch to a new living room (or sunroom, as it was dubbed), a library and enlarged dining room, all in the style we know as Alden Dow architecture. A master suite was added and a kitchenette came later to this addition, enclosing the original screened porch, thus adding to the bedroom. Ultimately the house would boast 6 bathrooms, 2 half baths, 2 with showers and 2 more with tubs. The home is located on three lots which have beautiful gardens, ponds and screened gazebo.
