    What's special

714 A Wainaku Street is a single level Hilo Bay and partial oceanview home located in Hilo town just over a mile from the Historic Hilo Bayfront, post office, banks, Farmer's Market, supermarkets, restaurants and medical offices. Located in an enclave of similar homes built in 1991, this home is pretty inside and out. Recent improvements are cause for excitement in this 4 bedroom and 3 bath home which boasts soaring ceilings in the main living space, views from many windows and the lanai, which is just off the dining room. Two remodeled baths both feature widened doorways, new tile on floors and around bathing areas, fresh paint and new windows. There is a new Kohler tub in the hall bath, and a new Kohler shower pan in the master bath for accessibility. With only two steps to access this single level house thru the kitchen door, there are plenty of aging in place pluses. Master on the main! Strand woven bamboo flooring in the living room and hall, neutral ceramic tile in the kitchen and dining room, and fresh paint here and there make this home one cut above the rest. The studio, or second master bedroom (included in the bed and bath count) in the detached former garage has been perfect for guests and visiting family, and a homework study office area at other times. The laundry room is also located in the former garage, which could always be restored for car storage if you prefer, but I have enjoyed the extra room under roof and have easily used the carport. Pick Mangoes from your tree in season, Limes and Lemons pretty much year round, and there's always been flowers for one's hair and lei making including Tahitian Gardenia, Puakenikeni, Plumeria and Hibiscus. Enjoy the scent of Night Blooming Jasmine outside the living and dining Rooms. A Native Hawaiian Hibiscus hedge was added outside the dining/living room for privacy, beauty and to watch the birds moving about from inside the house, among the branches and flowers. Almost every window has a "Green View" of lovely tropical plants. Water view from dining, living, lanai, and one bedroom. It's been my place to call home and to improve while attending school. Gaze at the bay, watch planes take off and land, see Lili'uokalani Park, Coconut Island, and the hotels across the bay. Feel the breezes and hear the surf and waves on quiet nights. Just up the hill on Haaheo Road is historic Haaheo School. The home is located on lands formerly known as Halepuna Ahupuaa, is at an elevation of about 125' (out of the Tsunami zone) and is about 450' from the ocean. The lot has very good deep soil and is located on the flanks of Mauna Kea, an extinct volcano. The property is located in Lava Zone 8 (out of 9) making it desirably safe and inexpensively insurable. The home is on county water and on a short lane just off the main part of Wainaku Street. With Hilo being rainy, I lightly dug out a shallow and narrow "trench" that meanders thru the back yard during torrential rains. I've been glad to have had it! Enjoy the new window in the master bedroom that showcases the tropical yard from your most private space. New partial kitchen remodel with new kitchen porch, Koa formica countertops, Kohler sink, new range hood and solid Koa table height countertop added in 2015 to the existing island that is shown in one of the old photos. Also got rid of the green paint in the old photos that I have included, and will add new photos soon. The Lanai and East staircase were both restored and trimmed with clear Western Red Cedar, and security screen doors added to the kitchen and living room in 2013. House will be professionally cleaned by May 31, 2017 and although tented in 2012, the house will be tented again in May 2017, just in case. Sale includes washer, dryer, fridge, stove, all potted plants, mower, and all yard tools.
