The center passage house was a very common dwelling type in the 19th century Texas. it was a natural evolution from the earlier dogtrot form which incorporated the passage as a hall inside the house flanked by two major rooms. additional rooms were commonly added later on the rear of the house. This type of central passage house was once very common in the region, but most of these structures have been razed or altered significantly; therefore, this house is a significant surviving example of its type.
