    What's special

This is one of the largest homes to be offered for sale in Mount Vernon in the past 5 years. Only 10 sales at 4,000sf or larger have sold in the last 3 years (18 total back to 2020). Only 1 MV house in 40 on this scale. In all Westchester as of 2/4/25 only 5 homes of 4000sf or larger were offered for under $1,000,000. If you need a large home this is the best value for your needs. It has 7 bedrooms, 3.1 baths, 3 fireplaces, garaging for 2 cars (one detached, and one attached). The property card lists 4,400sf but usable floor area measures about 5,100sf, not including the large usable basement (an additional 1,500sf). This Georgian style home has always been a single family so much of the classical detailing that made these homes so great is still in place. The floorplan's flow is a completely modern center hall arrangement, with modern sized and proportioned rooms - this home anticipated a modern lifestyle. An outer vestibule leads through a large entrance door into a central foyer. To the right is a substantial living room with pocket doors, a large fireplace, stained glass clerestory window, and beyond it through two sets of French doors is a sun room (heatable by 2 radiators). The foyer and the living room both open through pocket doors into a library with built-in bookcases with leaded glass doors, a Tudor style fireplace, and a long built-in window seat below 5 large south facing leaded and stained glass windows. Also off the foyer is an octagonal formal dining room reached through French doors. This room has a large bank of windows, two built-in mirrored display cabinets, high ceilings, and an antique chandelier. Off the dining room there is a butler's pantry that leads to the kitchen. That space also has a half bath. The eat-in kitchen is generously sized and offers a substantial amount of storage in wall and under counter cabinets. It has a capped gas line if you prefer gas cooking. There is a pantry closet, and access to a rear service entrance (exterior stairs removed). The wide staircase to the second floor takes you to a big landing with a window seat under a triple window. There are 5 closets off the landing which also opens to 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths. One bedroom, used as a sitting room, has a fireplace, built-in bookcase, walk in closet, and private hall to a bathroom. This bath has a stained glass window, tub-shower, and a cast iron pedestal sink on a fluted column. Another bedroom provides three exposures, 2 closets, and a window seat with storage. A large primary suite (630sf) contains the primary bedroom with a large south facing bay window, its own balcony, and a hall to a bath with stall shower, cast iron pedestal sink on a fluted column, and a stained glass window. Completing this suite are 2 closets and an additional bedroom adjacent to the primary bedroom currently used as a study. The 3rd floor has a generous landing with a sitting area and 3 casement windows. There are 3 bedrooms on this level (one used as a den), a bath with claw foot tub (stained glass windows excluded) and a large storage room with shelves and drawers. This level's views reach to Long Island. The basement has an updated utility room, a large laundry with 3 full sized above ground windows, a garage (currently a shop - doors could easily be restored), and a large unfinished storage/play area. The basement has walk out access to the driveway, which can accommodate 4 cars comfortably. The house is entirely livable but is sold "as-is" and priced for needed exterior work (replacement roofing, leaders and gutters, casement windows on the 3rd floor, and painting) and to replace appliances. Zoned RMF 6.75 potentially allows conversion to a spectacular two family (check MV building and Zoning) - two new 3,000sf two family homes a block away each sold for $1,275,000 recently). It is an easy walk to Mount Vernon East Metro North (New Haven line) and is central to major metro area highways.
