We have been improving this house since we bought it: We added (with a permit) a 12'x24' extension on the lanai and we build out the roof to cover it. It is totally screened in so we have no bugs. We tore out the carpet in the living room and installed bamboo floors that extend all the way into the new lanai, giving the house a much more cohesive and larger appearance. When we added the roof to cover the new lanai, we also re-shingled half the roof. We added more electricity (with permit) since the house was underpowered. Now we are able to run a woodshop as well as my electric kiln (I'm a ceramic artist). We seperated the downstairs area into a mother-in-law apartment. This area is a one bedroom, one bath, with a kitchenette (we put in a nice full size fridge) and new kitchen cabinets. We also tore out the old carpet and put in new carpet in the living area, and new linoleum in the kitchen. The downstairs lanai is large and it has a view of the ocean through the fruit trees. It is a perfect "guest quarters" and because it has it's own locked entrance, it could even be used as a rental unit, complete with washer and dryer. We added a stack washer and dryer to the main part of the house so the upstairs and downstairs both have their own independent clothes washer and dryer. We added lighted fans to all areas of the house, and updated the lighting fixtures throughout the house. We painted interior doors white (they used to br brown) so the whole house looks lighter now. The kitchen didn't really need anything. It has a great range and very nice corian countertops that go up the walls all the way to the cabinets. We dug out an ugly planter area and made it into a beautiful koi pond with a lava rock waterfall. We added more concrete to make the back lanai (which I use as my artist' studio) bigger. Neighborhood Description Nice "old" neighborhood. People are friendly here but not pushy. I like all our neighbors. Across the street neighbors and mauka neighbors have helped me out on numerous occassions, lifing heavy things, bringing extra fruit, etc. When we had the Big earthquake a couple of years ago, my husband was on the mainland and everyone really came together to help each other out. Good down to earth people. Great to be near the walking path. My child is an adult so I don't know anything about the schools.
