I find myself in Astoria a lot now, and I'd prefer to live closer than I currently do. With that said, the location here is the best part. Almost every train is within a few blocks. Hudson river is a 10 minute walk away, with its awesome waterfront parks and paths. Plus it's quieter than most of Manhattan. The neighborhood is trendy, with new shops and restaurants opening constantly. The apartment itself is large, more than enough space for one person. Would be great for a couple. And the view is amazing.
