You won't find another home like this on the Virginia Beach oceanfront. To begin with, while the home is protected by a large dune, immediately in front of the house this dune is not so tall that it blocks the view of the ocean from the second floor. Unlike in many oceanfront homes, you'll enjoy an expansive view of the ocean through large windows from both the second and the third floor. Plus from a deck on the roof. Skylights add even more light. An elevator runs all the way from the first floor to the roof. This modern home was intelligently designed by Lazlo Aranyi to make the most of a standard oceanfront lot. A landscaped private courtyard separates the three-storey home from the detached garage, in the Mediterranean style. A covered walkway connects them. A studio was more recently added above the garage. A second level of the walkway connects this studio to the second (and main) floor of the house. Both the living room in the house and the studio over the garage have high ceilings. In the studio, the wood ceiling features exposed beams in a wave design. In the living room, a semi-circular wood-burning stove sits atop a tile hearth crafted by Karen Podd of Gloucester to mirror the view out the adjacent windows. The second floor is the primary living floor. With an open floor pan, it includes a living room, dining room, kitchen, and half-bath. Plus a closed-in porch. The kitchen includes a large pantry and Subzero refrigerator. An outside deck faces SW and continues onto the studio walkway. The master bedroom, master bath, and a loft office looking down on the living room occupy the entire third floor, guaranteeing its occupants their privacy. Two outside decks on this floor face SE and SW. The first floor contains two bedrooms, a recreation room that can be used as a third bedroom (space was allocated for an accordion dividing wall, but one was never installed), two half-baths adjoining a tub-shower, and the laundry-utility room. The studio over the garage includes a closet and full bath. Note on the square footage: The home as originally built was about 3,000 sq. ft. An addition for the elevator and closing in a second-floor deck added about 500 square feet. The studio over the garage is about 800 square feet. These are approximate figures.
