Designed in 1948, this is one of seven private residences by world renowned architect Benjamin Thompson. With the intention of being built in the Boston area, the commissioner of the home was abruptly transferred to Dayton, OH. The house was built in 1950, with an addition shortly thereafter in 1952. Thompson invented the concept of the "festival marketplace" with his designs for Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston; Harborplace, Baltimore; the South Street Seaport, New York; Union Station, Washington, D.C.; and Dublin's historic Custom House Docks. In 1946, Thompson and mentor, Walter Gropius, founded The Architects Collaborative in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
