    What's special

This peaceful, private home with over 200 feet of waterfront on the scenic St. George River is actually two homes: a main, ranch-style “cottage,” which has been slowly renovated and modernized right up until 2024, and a three-story, log-cabin-like guest house built over the garage. Taking the winding Broad Cove Lane drive all the way to the end lands you at the home's U-shaped driveway, giving you the first extraordinary views of the river, and leading to the ample parking area. As you walk up the granite walkway to the front door, you immediately see the river through the house. The newly renovated back deck and lawn have miles-wide, unobstructed views of the river and wildlife that includes migratory birds, Eagles, Ospreys, seals and fish, as well as the occasional lobster and fishing guide boat. (You'll also have a perfect view of artist Andrew Wyeth's summer home on the point across the river.) The screened porch is perfect for naps. The gardens, "rooms'' originally created by a master gardener, offer seasonal beauty year-round. Stairs take you directly down to the water and our 200 feet of granite shoreline. If you kayak, you may be the only kayaker out there, greeting the seals and their pups. Nearly every room in the main house has an unobstructed, wide view of the river, original or new pine flooring or select tile. From the back deck, walk through double sliding doors into the great room, with its vaulted ceiling, wood beams, and huge brick fireplace, combining the living room and a dining area. There's a cedar-lined, walk-in closet, and a full bathroom that features a brand-new Jacuzzi tub, with a side view of the river. The great room leads to a sitting room with a bay window water view -- also with an original fireplace/hearth and wood stove -- and a fully renovated, spacious kitchen designed by two dedicated cooks, with maple cabinetry, new appliances and a beautiful (working!) 1800s-era Wood & Bishop wood stove. The kitchen adjoins a sunroom that can be used as a home office or dining area, filled with light and water views from 10 nearly full-length windows. The MBR, with ample closet space, and a cozy second bedroom, as well as another small bath with shower, run along the front of the house. The insulated, partially finished basement that runs the length of the great room contains a lovely surprise -- a hand-built sauna -- as well as a laundry area and plenty of room for storage or a workshop. Extra room also is available in the detached shed, the spot for gardening equipment, grilling (or that studio), and the two-car garage. The guest house: Just past the hand-stacked rock wall, the winterized, fully wired guest house gives visitors full privacy, all conveniences and gorgeous water views. On the ground floor is a tranquil living room, with a deck featuring a new outdoor shower, and on the second floor is a small, fully equipped kitchen and dining area. Up a few stairs, on the third floor, there's a huge bedroom with a large, open sitting area for reading and relaxing, and a comfy bathroom with a shower. We use the guest house for visitors and a personal yoga area, but the previous owners had an impressive summer rental history with it.
