This penthouse loft is the one and only residence inside the Swoop-Duggins House, and is located on the top (3rd) floor. CellarDoor restaurant is located on the 1st floor. The loft has 2 magnificent outdoor spaces - a huge iconically New Orleans front gallery/balcony looking over Lafayette St., and a brand new oversized rooftop back deck with sweeping views of downtown. Both outdoor spaces includes an irrigation system that waters the plans on both the front and back outdoor areas. The Swoop-Duggins House is truly one of the most unique buildings in all of New Orleans. Part of the Upper Central Business District's National Historic District, as well as the local Lafayette Square Historic District, it is possibly the single oldest "house" remaining in downtown New Orleans. At the end of the eighteenth century, the boundaries of New Orleans expanded upriver from the Vieux Carre (French Quarter.) Previously operating as the ever eccentric Velvet Room, the brothel themed Sporting House, arts themed restaurant "Christopher Blake's" (which was owned by New Orleans gourmet laureate Christopher Blake - Gertrude Stein's last protege), and perhaps most notably, one of the longest running brothels in New Orleans, the Swoop-Duggins House doesn't fall short on soul or history. Most likely built around or before 1830, the house is a three-story, three-bay, brick house with an attached two-story service wing... and yes, it most certainly does have ghosts. In 2016 a 3 story "gallery" (a balcony spanning the depth of an entire sidewalk) which was original to the property, was restored to its original grandeur. Just three blocks down the street is the Mercedes Benz Superdome and Smoothie King Arena which host an array of annual major concerts, large festivals (Essence Festival, Bourbon Beer and Boudin), and of course the homes of the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans. The CBD is all around, so a very quick walk, or short Uber/Lyft (wait time is approximately 2 min on almost all occasions), to get to any office building or the Morial Convention Center. The St. Charles Streetcar Line is on the corner, and the Loyola Streetcar Line is three blocks away. If you enjoy dinning out, there are over a hundred restaurants to enjoy within easy walking distance, many of which are James Beard Award winning, and almost all of which allow you to sample the excellent culinary experience a visit to New Orleans has to offer. Nightlife entertainment opportunities abound outside of sports include musical performances at the Three Keys, Fillmore Theater, Sanger Theater, Howling Wolf, Republic, Joy Theater, and many others. Outdoor concerts are regularly held at Champions Square and Lafayette Park. The French Quarter is an easy to access 15 minute walk. Our central location should make sporting events, concerts, living and working downtown, and getting to the French Quarter a super easy experience, while not compromising on luxury, security, and privacy. Short and long term rates vary by time, and the place and come furnished or unfurnished. Please inquire and we can discuss. Tenant pays electric and internet. Water included and sewer.
