In the 1880's these rowhouses housed Madam Fredin's Eden Park School for young ladies, an elite establishment where only French was spoken. Madam Fredin and her husband played an important part in the cultural and educational life of Cincinnati. After the school was closed the rowhouses became housing. By the 1960's the neighborhood was in serious decline, and the row was abandoned. The row was renovated as market-rate apartments in 1980 using federal historic preservation tax incentives, as part of the City's Nassau Eden Redevelopment Project. The rowhouses are build of random patterned rubble limestone, with steeply pitched slate mansards and tower roofs. Ascending the slope in stair step fashion, the first units alternately project and recess. Each unit is enriched with distinctive detailing.
