    What's special

HOME ON LICK LOG CREEK The original 650 sq. ft. house was built during the early mid-century by a Cherokee Indian and is located on Lick Log Creek at the base of Double Top Mountain, a part of the Balsam Chain. Several up-dates had been added to the home over the years: Wing additions constructed of white pine obtained from the Biltmore Estate. All new wiring, plumbing, insulated windows and insulation (walls and ceiling) were installed. Pine floors were installed in the kitchen and living room. The original structure now includes an up-dated kitchen with hardwood flooring, There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The large “turret room” at the end of the home has seven windows and gives a panoramic view of the beautiful winter snows and wonderful summers at Balsam. It could easily be a third bedroom, den or family area. All antique wall cabinets in the home, along with the hall bath organ top, are included in the sale price. Doors in the home are from the 19th century with the exception of one. The beautiful main entry door is made of oak from about 1865. It retains its original glass and has a wonderfully carved angel at its base. The garage entry door from the small foyer adjacent to the laundry room was purchased from an antique store in Waynesville. Possibilities for the spacious laundry room include a sewing room, exercise room, gardening room, etc. The wood-burning fireplace is constructed of hand-stacked native stone--as is the outside chimney. Off the living room is a foyer with 14-ft. ceilings and brick paving stone flooring. The attached two-car garage includes another attic for storage. Adjoining the garage is a compact workshop /design room. The pleasant breezeway off the compact shop leads to a sun-lit 20 ft. X 20 ft. main workshop for the wood / pottery worker, artist, or hobbyist. It would make an excellent home gym. Additional: Large covered bricked patio, Home is cooled in the summer by the coolness the stream affords and by the 3000 ft. elevation. Air conditioning is not necessary! New metal roof.
