The Leilani Estate subdivision was formed in 1964. The name "Leilani" in Hawaiian means "royal child" or "heavenly lei". The Hawaiian name for the Leilani Estate subdivision area is Keahialaka. The Pahoa village has been energized by new people moving in and new investments by business and the County of Hawai‘i. There are a lot of people using the improved Park and boat ramp just down the hill at Pohoiki and MacKenzie State Park with recent major upgrades. The new local Fire and Police facilities are a nice addition to the Puna area. New commercial development is planned in Pahoa and a major new park next to the Pahoa swimming pool is in the planning stages. Highway improvements are in the final planning stage for the infamous intersection coming into Pahoa. Enjoy the many activities held at the community center such as yoga, hula, Hawaiian language, dog training,tai chi, and qigong. There's also a lending library, playground, basketball court, and an occasional free movie at the pavilion. CC&R's are light and pretty standard. Annual road maintenance dues are $90. There is a volunteer neighborhood watch and the NW Picnic will be held on February 9, 2014. NW will be providing burgers, hot dogs and drinks. Near Pahoa Village shopping centers, warm ponds & beaches. Weekly farmers markets and about 30 minutes from the big city, Hilo.
