Trinidad Colorado is located in Las Animas County in Southern Colorado, 190 miles south of Denver. The city lies 13 miles north of the New Mexico border, and 190 miles north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Trinidad was recently featured on an episode of Rocky Mountain PBS Colorado Experience. What to do in Trinidad, Colorado The Trinidad Welcome Center -staff provides destination information, routing suggestions, road conditions, weather information, ect. To learn more about the history of Trinidad and the Santa Fe Trail, check out the Corazon de Trinidad National Historic District's Baca House and Bloom Mansion, both part of the Trinidad History Museum. The Louden-Henritze Archeology Museum features Trinidad's pre-history, where you'll find artifacts from the nearby Trinchera Cave, where prehistoric humans lived for thousands of years. Southern Colorado Repertory Theater in Trinidad produces professional theatre, community theatre, special events and educational programs for teens and youth.  A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art houses the largest collection of works by Arthur Roy Mitchell, known for his cowboy-themed paintings, and other Western artists; and admire one of the largest collections of stately Victorian houses west of the Mississippi. Trinidad Lake State Park also offers camping, hiking, fishing, boating and an archery range, while Comanche National Grassland to the east boasts Picket Wire Canyonlands --home to one of the largest known dinosaur track sites in North America. The Purgatoire River flows through Trinidad and excellent trout-fishing access is available in town at select spots along its banks. Take a peaceful walk along the waterway on the Riverwalk; or visit historic Kit Carson Park to view the bronze statue of Kit Carson. Trinidad is also the starting point for the Scenic Highway of Legends, a historic drive through villages to Walsenburg to the north.
