In addition to the main cabin, there is an 18’ x 12’ sleeping cabin that is well insulated for cold weather camping. Additional out buildings include a tool shed, privy, and wood shed. Added interest is a national register historical site known as the Ambajejus Lake Boomhouse. It has been restored for the preservation of the river driving history of the Great Northern Paper Company. This is the same region explored by Henry David Thoreau in 1846, 1853, and 1857. His book, “In the Maine Woods” was published in 1864 before the closest community (Millinocket) began to construct its paper mill in 1899. This museum is shown in the last photograph. At a mile’s distance, this is our closest neighbor.
