If you like soulful, simple, classic old buildings, this East End of Pittsburgh/ Highland Park Home may be for you, and the large front porch is wonderful. This apt is great for a single person at $975 and doable for a couple who doesn't have a ton of stuff, the cost is $1100 for a couple because of more utilities and wear on the house. These apartments can be generally comfortable in Summer, tho with climate change, use of your own window AC in the bedroom is sometimes necessary, and some folks have used one in the side window in kitchen, too. The large windows work well to aid heating and cooling. Outdoor porch and patio can be wonderful in Spring, Fall and in Summer when not too hot & humid. Growing space in the garden is a possibility if you are into gardening, b'c we are, and enjoy gardening with others. Container gardening also a possibility in front (faces East) and back (faces West). Grape arbor is generally pickable Aug - early Sept. Apartment warm in Winter, tho the in-between seasons can have swings in temp until the full heating season kicks-in sometime in November and goes thru March (you may want layers, and maybe your own space heater during Spring and Fall). Double-walled brick construction takes a bit to heat up, and its cozy-good during the Winter months Stairs from the street up to second floor, and down to the basement storage and laundry. We use honor system per laundry load, add to your rent. Basement storage is 8' x 6' and not recommended for any cloth/ fiber material, can be too humid. This is a diverse block with nice neighbors. We are close to Highland Park for walking, jogging, hiking and biking, tennis, volleyball, basketball and large pool. Free and donation-based outdoor yoga, dance classes and meditation happen near the Park Entry Fountain in Summer. Great walking neighborhood. Easy access walking or biking to grocery, post office, banks, stores, restaurants, library, gyms. Busway and East Liberty bus hub 10 min walk. The Lease is generally from Aug 1-July 31. Move-in time is negotiable for this apt this year. Owner pays for water, heating (gas) and you pay for electric and internet (there is potential to share). This is an old house and requires gentle, mindful participation from all occupants to keep things running well and conserving energy and water and $ for all, so rent can stay below market rates ($975 for single person, $1100 for couple to cover higher utilities and wear). We communicate with each other regularly, manage doors and windows to reduce heat loss in Winter, and heat gain in Summer, take turns with getting recycling and garbage to curb, putting cans back under side of porch, and following guidelines for quiet times and laundry times etc (see Lease Addendum from Landlord for house operation deets). There is no smoking or vaping inside or outside on the property. Burning of incense and candles is prohibited. We value sobriety, consideration, cooperation and respect in all things. Animals can visit outside as long as they are not aggressive and are kept on a leash and asking permission to be in the shared backyard with an animal is requested. We take turns with snow removal & sweeping porch, patios, sidewalk and steps, inside and outside areas that you use. If you are into taking responsibility for your space, and are willing to leave shared spaces better than you find them, that is highly valued here, and this place is for you.
