According to the County this land use designation zoning district provides for open space and recreational activities and single family homes. Some of the other permitted uses include; crop production, orchard, vineyard, produce stand and a licensed residential care facility. Overhead power is approximately 0.9 miles north along Highway 178. Much of the surrounding land is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The BLM is an agency within the United States Department of the Interior responsible for managing over 245 million acres of public lands, primarily located in the western states. These lands are diverse in their uses, including grazing, mining, recreation, conservation, and energy development. BLM lands are also home to a variety of wildlife, including wild horses, burros, and migratory birds. The agency works to balance the various uses of these lands while also protecting their ecological and cultural resources for future generations. Ridgecrest is a small city located in the southern portion of the Indian Wells Valley in eastern Kern County near the county border with San Bernardino County. It is situated along the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and is known for its proximity to some of California's most iconic natural landmarks such as Death Valley National Park, the Mojave Desert, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The city has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s when it was primarily a mining town, and it has since evolved into a diverse community with a mix of agriculture, defense, and aerospace industries. Ridgecrest is also home to several parks and recreational areas, including the Maturango Museum, the Desert Empire Fairgrounds, and the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake.
