Nearly 60 years ago, my parents bought a half section of property near Palmdale/Landcaster, California. Each spring break we would go camp there and enjoy the wildlife and wild flowers. Over time as towns central to our land, Palmdale, Lancaster, Victorville and Hesperia, grew and rumors of LA expanding their airport here would increase the value of our land. Dad wanted to sell, but Mom insisted we keep it. Eventually portions were sold, but Mom hung on to the best 40-acre portion. Now that Mom has passed and the family has dispersed around the country, it’s time to sell that last parcel. Doing a little research, I see why that land was so special. This area is known as the Lake Los Angeles area because there used to be a lake there, but has more recently has dried up. This area also has a film history dating back to 1938 with two regularly used filming areas. One was located east of150th Street East between Avenue N and Avenue K. Numerous feature films, music videos, television commercials and, and television series such as “Bonanza” were filmed there for decades. I remember Mom signing a release for a film just a few years ago. Though the lake has dried up today, there are efforts to get the lake filled again.
