The S&L Ranch is comprised of 7,008 acres located west of Woodruff in the Monte Cristo area. This high mountain ranch ranges from 7,000 to over 8,400 feet in elevation, and offers a highly aesthetic mix of dense stands of pine and aspen, and open parks and ridgelines. With almost 3 miles of Woodruff Creek, a mountain trout stream loaded with native Bonneville Cutthroat Trout, and dozens of springs, beaver ponds, and small creeks, this ranch has some of the best water of any ranch in Utah. There are 30 filed on stockwater rights, with very senior priority dates averaging around 1884. Despite the great fishing, the main highlight of the ranch is its big game. The ranch is excellent habitat for moose, elk, and deer, all of which inhabit the ranch in high numbers during the fall. Because of the water and premium habitat, the S&L Ranch has one of the highest densities of moose found anywhere in the state, with as many as 14 moose having been spotted at one time in one canyon alone. The ranch is a majority part of the Woodruff Creek South CWMU for deer, elk, and moose. The larger CWMU gets 2 landowner moose tags, 18 landowner bull elk tags, and 9 landowner buck deer tags, all of which can be legally sold for a profit. These tags are split 50/50 with the neighboring ranch, which is also a part of the same CWMU.
