The Loft is a 16' x 22' airy, open-plan studio unit, on the second floor above the detached workshop/garage next to the family's cottage at 12 Highland Avenue, Stonington, Maine. Located on a granite covered rise presenting breathtaking views of the Stonington Harbor, the Deer Island Thorofare and the Greenhead area, the property is centrally situated in an established residential area, within an easy walk to the village of Stonington and all its coastal Downeast beauty and charm. Featuring a spectacular panoramic view of the outer islands from Greenhead to the east end of the Stonington Harbor and out to Isle au Haut, the Loft has high pitched ceilings, a queen bed and a full size sleep sofa. The small bathroom has a stall shower, sink and flush toilet. The kitchen area has a stainless steel sink, small refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, flatware, cooking utensils and other amenities. To check for availability or to make a reservation, please contact the property manager, Barrett Gray. (Note: The Loft's owners do not live on site, but they use the main house occasionally, typically not in high season. The Loft is unaffiliated with Boyce's Motel in Stonington, which is owned and operated by Barrett Gray, who also manages the Loft and lives not far away.) Guests of the Loft share parking in the "dooryard" beside the main house. We have basic wifi/internet; books, cards, board games, croquet and badminton sets are available on request. For us, enjoying the view and idyllic scenery is our favorite form of entertainment. We thank you for not smoking in or around our property. Stonington is at the southern-most end of the island of Deer Isle in "Downeast" Maine, around 265 miles from Boston's Logan Airport. The island is connected to the mainland by a suspension bridge and a causeway, and is southwest of Bar Harbor in the Penobscot Bay area. It is the perfect home base for exploring the nearby Acadia National Park and island of Bar Harbor. Deer Isle is approximately 12 miles long, and the island's population at least triples in the high season. To reach Stonington/Deer Isle, there is bus service from Boston Logan to Bangor International Airport (BGR), from there you could rent a car, ride share or cab. It is approximately a 1.75 to 2 hour drive from BGR to the island. There is excellent local sailing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, hiking, boating, fishing, beachcombing for sea glass and shells, antiquing, crafting, sightseeing, swimming at the Lily Pond or Sand Beach, and the like. The island is a very popular destination in the summer. Buckminster Fuller developed his prescient electric car on the island, and his family had a geodesic dome house in Sunset, a village on the island. It is also the home of the Haystack School of Arts and Crafts, seasonal local artisans, art studios, galleries, forges, jewelers, farmers' markets, and fine local dining. This property is furnished, and linens will be provided upon request. Minimum weekly leases may be available during the season (except for blackout dates: June 7-15), otherwise by pre-approved agreement with manager, Barrett Gray. Owner pays for utilities, yard care and basic wifi/internet. Renter pays for 9% Maine State lodging tax, and pet deposit (if applicable). Check in is at or after 3:00 pm. Check out is at or before 10:00 am. No more than 4 people at any time as pre-registered guests of the "Loft", with a maximum of 1 vehicle parked in the dooryard where specified by Manager. This entire property, including interior, porch, stairs, dooryard and curtilage, is a no-smoking property. Guests and any invitee(s) will be held responsible for any damage to the premises; any loss/damage of any personal property of the guests/invitees is at the sole risk of the guests/invitees. No assignment or subleasing is permitted. Renters insurance may be required for stays of 2 months or longer.
