The unfinished basement can be used for storage but at tenant's own risk. Any damage to the renters stored property or artifacts will be the tenant's responsibility, however any damage caused to the homeowner from storing artifacts or property in basement will be an action to not get your deposit. A background, rental history and credit check is required and must be submitted and approved before moving into the property.
