Joseph Hayes the son of John Hayes, the first Governor of the Colony of Connecticut. Beautifully built and maintained through the years! Many original features including wide board floors, raised wood paneling, and interior finish detailing are still in place. 4 fireplaces including one in the Master Bedroom. Most of the architectural characteristics found in houses built by the colonists are found in the Whiting Homestead and have been mostly unaltered by time. The nearly new wood roof is the same as the original 1786 roof. Over the years there have been many structural updates and this house is extremely sound. The walkup attic has an amazingly high ceiling and impressive beaming. While this property is in close walking distance to the hustle and bustle of Bishops Corner it is set back from the road and maintains a large quiet back yard, deck and patio. The home is on the National Register of Historic Places and is #13 on the plaque of historic homes in West Hartford Town Hall.
