    What's special

Holiday Farm is 324 acres of stunning natural beauty, historical and archaeological significance, diversity and extraordinary value. It's the best address in Kentucky; located just beyond the east end of Louisville. The property is surrounded by Thoroughbred breeding and training facilities many of which are very significant, like Hermitage Farm. The Location: 3800 Shiloh Lane, Goshen, Kentucky; 12 miles upstream on the Ohio River from downtown Louisville in Oldham County. Oldham County is the wealthiest county in Kentucky and the 48th wealthiest in the US and ranks 2nd in Kentucky for percentage of college educated residences. Areas east of Louisville have long been popular with wealthy residents, initially as summer residences and gentlemen's farms and eventually as year-round suburban estates. The History: Commodore Richard Taylor, revolutionary war hero and cousin to both Presidents James Madison and Zachary Taylor, was given a land grant of 5,333 acres in Kentucky and chose a site on Holiday Farm for his homestead. He named it "Woodlawn". He and his wife Catherine are buried on the property in a private cemetery marked by both the Sons of the Revolution and the Daughters of 1812. The base of the granite gravestone is made up of chimney stones from Taylor's original home."In short, Holiday Farm and the surrounding area has been a desirable place to live for thousands of years. There are several known significant sites, both historic and prehistoric . . . and a high probability for many more yet to be discovered archaeological resources." Richard Green, Historic Archaeological Research The front half of a farmhouse located at one entrance to the farm is estimated to be nearly 200 years old and still serves as a rental house. The Land: The land is primarily level to gently rolling with very fertile soil and 200 acres of tillable cropland. Soil maps are available upon request. Presently, 111 acres produce corn or soybeans with another 100 acres in hay grasses. The balance of the property is primarily in hardwood forests which surround waterfalls and creeks and provide habitat to many Whitetail deer and turkey. The bulk of Holiday Farm is situated between 2 county roads, with entrances and considerable frontage on each. Seventy or so acres run north from Shiloh Lane to the bluff overlooking the Ohio River with miles of sweeping river views.Approximately 2,000 Black Walnut trees were planted on 5 acres nearly 25 years ago. At maturity, in another 15 to 20 years, this highly valued timber will be worth a great deal of money. The Improvements: City water, electricity and phone lines are in place throughout the property. A well-maintained gravel road runs the complete length of the property from entrance to entrance (1.4 miles +/-) and then also from Shiloh gate to the bluff overlooking the Ohio River. At the bluff is a 1,400sf home; the 1st floor of which is paneled in Black Walnut and Cherry woods milled from trees harvested on the farm. Additionally at this location is a two-stall horse barn. Another residence mentioned previously is a beautiful old farmhouse with 14' ceilings and original oak flooring in the front half of the house. It sits at the N Buckeye entrance. A 6,000sf barn is centrally located on the property.Note: Adjacent to the property is a beautiful 3,860sf home plus finished basement on 4 acres. Though not included in this sale, it is also available.

This property is off market, which means it's not currently listed for sale or rent on Zillow. This may be different from what's available on other websites or public sources.
