We are creating a community where kids can play together in the basement, backyard, and each others' units, and where adults keep an eye out for everybody's kids and help each other out. The ideal community member is interested in co-ownership of the building, which means committing to long-term tenancy (at least 5 years) and participating in decision-making (like how to landscape the backyard) and maintenance (like shoveling snow). We provide equal housing opportunity and welcome Section 8 voucher holders. Our building is from 1904 and has been meticulously maintained while preserving its original charm. Units have hardwood floors, built-in cabinetry, ornate ceiling woodwork, beautiful bathroom tiles, ceiling fans, new hot water heaters, and radiator heat. The large enclosed back porches are insulated and have windows, making them pleasant year-round. There is ample basement storage. We are finishing the basement into a common space where kids can play and adults can relax outside of their units, and we are landscaping the backyard to provide outdoor space for the building. Heat, internet, gas, water, trash, and everything except electricity (and renter's insurance, if you want it) is included. We'll consider renters who will commit to as little as 1 year, but our preference is to have long-term neighbors who will be a part of our community and consider becoming members of our cooperatively owned and managed property. Smoking tobacco is not allowed. Pets will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
