Built in 1900 for a prominent Hearne mercantile businessman, the Robert C. Allen House is an excellent example of an eclectic, turn-of-the century residence with Queen Anne, Shingle Style & Colonial Revival influences. The house stands virtually unaltered except for minor remodeling in 1933 & 1983. The entire ground floor & sub-floor are 12" thick of brick construction overlaid with 2" of concrete. The upper floors are cypress. The magnificent staircase, ornate window encasements, paneling, floors & sliding doors are fashioned from Texas longleaf pine. Eleven stained glass windows adorne this beautiful home. This house is a Texas Landmark (1981) & on the National Historical Registry (1982).
