The Apartment: I'm renting out my two-bedroom apartment in the heart of the Mission. It's a classic turn-of-the-century unit with gorgeous Victorian details throughout, including 16+ foot ceilings, wainscoting, picture molding, skylight, original hardwood floors, and parlor doors. The apartment has a spacious kitchen, brand new bathroom (renovations completed this past March), giant bay windows in the living room, and a bonus back porch/exercise area (with free washer/dryer). The first bedroom is large and quiet, with a nice size closet and tall window. The second bedroom, separated from the living room by parlor doors, is smaller, but easily fits a full or queen bed, dresser, and desk; like many Victorian bedrooms, there's no built-in closet, but there's a wardrobe in a corner of the room that will be rented with the unit. Both bedrooms and the living room have stunning Casa Montego ceiling fan chandeliers that were installed about a year ago. The Building: The building was built in 1891 and is in the Stick/Eastlake architectural style. It has four total units. Three of the four units are residential, and the fourth is the bar Shotwell's (read about it here: http www.shotwellsbar.com/history.html). The apartment is separated from the bar by a floor and several walls, so the noise doesn't carry over, but it's a great spot to grab a drink with friends, and the owners are super friendly. The Neighborhood: Central Mission is my favorite neighborhood in the city. It's right in the middle of the Valencia, 20th St., and 24th St. corridors, a few blocks from 16th or 24th St. Bart, and a 10-minute walk from Dolores Park. It also has lots to capture the imagination of history nerds like me; Shotwell was one of the first graded and paved streets in the Mission, and was one of the earliest residential blocks, situated right between the streetcar lines on Van Ness and Folsom. (Read more about the history here: ) These days, there are countless places within steps to eat, drink, and be merry -- Shotwell's downstairs, Schmidt's around the corner, San Jalisco down a block, Flour + Water two blocks away, Philz's at 24th & Folsom, etc. etc. etc. Let me know what you're looking for, and I'd be happy to give you a long list of recs.
