The house is situated on a mountain about 800ft high. Our view is north all the way to New Paltz. We have many fully grown trees and get plenty of shade all summer long on our patio and yard. Our plants and trees include a Japanese maple (perfect for climbing), a tulip tree, lilac bush, a rose of sharon, a mulberry tree, lilies, roses, black eyed susans, a herb garden, rasberries and a small strawberry patch. Neighborhood Description Suburban sprawl hasn't totally hit the area yet - there are still quite a few farms in the area and lot of the roads have a wide-open, country feel to them. There is an organic farm about 3 miles from our house, as well as two horse ranches, a Buddhist retreat and a herb farm. There are plenty of places to hike and see nature, especially with Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain near by. Bear Mountain also includes a huge public swimming pool and a zoo. Our local ice cream stand is an old-school seasonal place called Weir's and it has the freshest and tastiest ice cream around. Their fat-free ice creams taste better than most regular ice creams. There are plenty of mom & pop stores in the region, and they seem to coexist very well with the larger chain stores. There are several choices for grocery stores (including Shop Right, Stop & Shop, Price Chopper & Hannaford), as well as department stores like Target, Kmart and Wal-Mart. You can buy pretty much anything you need within 15 minutes. We are also 15 minutes from the Woodbury Commons outlet stores and have been buying brand-names at discount prices for years. There are also quite a few choices for parks and playgrounds within 15 minutes, and other local activities include mini-golf, batting cages and sports like Little League baseball. A little farther away is the famous Castle Fun Center with minigolf, rollerskating, go karts and arcade. About 20 minutes away is Middletown with the area's biggest mall, the Galleria at Crystal Run and the Loews multiplex.
