    What's special

Own a treasured piece of Montgomery s storied past the Dr. E. Ross Elliot House dates from the early 1890 s and is built in the Queen Anne Victorian style. While time has made it marks, it still retains its original Queen Anne Victorian chestnut grand staircase and much of its original window and door trim. The paneled fields that survive below some of the windows were considered an upscale feature for this era. The chestnut woodwork of the stairway and the trim is identical to that in Peachcroft located on River Road and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A period hanging ceiling fixture in the back hallway would be perfect for the front vestibule and is likely originally to that location. The attic gables retain their original colored glass window sashes and located on the board and batten doors in the basement are original Victorian thumb latch hardware likely purchased at Brown Brothers in the village. The house originally contained rare Mallory patent shutter hardware which allowed the occupants to open and close the shutters from the inside of the house by use of crank handles some of them survive today. Only a few homes in the area boast of such a feature. Master craftsman and builder Chauncey Brooks built this house as he did so many others in the community. The house was initially electrified in 1911 with knob and tube wiring which has been upgraded Within the carriage house can be found the original chestnut pocket doors for the house with their original hardware waiting to go back in place. These doors remain in excellent condition. One of the original oak mantelpieces for either the parlor or dining room has been located and is awaiting to be restored back into the house. The period wagon house is an added feature to this property and a rare find in the village which enhances both the historical and practical importance of the property. This house a diamond in the rough and can once again be a village showplace. New Roof and Siding approx 7 years ago. some replacement windows,
