PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE AD. THIS IS A HOUSING CO-OP not A WHOLE HOUSE FOR RENT.
Large, classical, Victorian house built in 1900, two blocks from Cheeseman Park, 5000 square feet. The house was a Buddhist meditation center before we got it and has lovely, calm vibes. Nine people currently live here and we are looking for two more.
Sharing 1-3 dinners a week, 3 living rooms, 2 new kitchens and a new kitchenette, & 5 baths. Staple foods (organic) are bought together. The group is self-regulating as a co-op; it decides together how the house runs. There are chores ;-)
Average cost per room is about a thousand dollars ranging from $650 to $1350. There are eleven bedrooms (Zillow's drop down maxes out at eight).
The rooms that are currently available are:
-$875 for a third floor room with two windows and a walk in closet.
-$1350 for a large, beautiful first floor room with gorgeous woodwork and huge windows.
Each room shares a bath with one or two other people. Shared utilities are currently $100 per person. Shared organic food is $135 and we expect that might go up to $145 in the next few months. Shared food does not include meat nor alcohol.
We currently have three cats and a dog. We may consider another dog. Another cat could only be considered for the third floor room.
Lease is for one private room, a shared bath, and shared community space.
Initial lease for 3-6 months while we and you decide if we all are a good fit. Deposit in the amount of one month's rent is required prior to move in.
WiFi is via mesh network from gig-speed fiberoptic service. Heat is with radiators. Cooling is evaporative. We have several streaming services which come and go as people decide what they are willing to pay for.
The house is NOT alcohol free and it IS 420 friendly with smoking allowed outdoors and on the enclosed porch only. Tobacco only outside.
The Co-op makes decisions cooperatively for how the house will function, so some things will change as we decide how to make the house work best for the diverse people living here. Intentions include:
Living in community
Communication with compassion.
Shared space and life.
Shared meals.
Shared staple foods which are Organic.
Group decision making.
Safe, inclusive space for all the colors of the LGBTQIA+ rainbow (Zillow seems to have decided we can't use the words because we might be saying something negative), anti-racist, non-violent, and feminist.
The purchase of the house by the co-op in about five years.
The expansion of the co-op, possibly to include other housing types (like separate apartments).
Weekly meetings.
Quiet hours 10pm-8am.
We are looking for community members who:
Want to live in a community not just have a place to sleep and eat.
Want to live in a beautiful, clean, and organized house and are willing to help make and keep it that way. Residents should expect to spend 16 hours per month towards this goal.
Are curious, compassionate, flexible, and open to living with others who will undoubtedly have different ideas about many things.
Are interested in pioneering a new co-op. There will be work involved to get there.
Are responsible and communicative.
Embrace enthusiastically that living in community requires introspection and personal growth.
Are not joining the community as a way of running away from something.
The community is in process. We will be starting with 3-6 month leases to figure out how the community will work best. Please join us!
