Built in 1859 as an addition to a 1816 plantation house. Used as officer quarters and hospital during US Civil War. Finished English basement with gas log fireplace. Main level also has fireplace with gas logs. Most woodwork is original, some original plasterwork. Neighborhood Description Although the original plantation has been sold during the past 150 years, the resulting neighborhood has been developed sensitively with single family homes and great neighbors. Our street is only two blocks from Main Street where there are the Post Office, many shops, and the weekend Farmer's Market in the park. Great area for walking and biking. The local mini bus stops at the end of our street and it takes passengers all over town and into the larger shopping centers for a very modest amount. Four churches within walking distance - one was Gen. Lee's favorite while encamped just outside of town.
