Room details
SUPER LOFT ROOM, GREAT HOUSEMATES. . . :) :)
1920's architecturally renovated arts and crafts style home with hardwood floors throughout, natural woodwork, gourmet kitchen, loft sleeping space in each bedroom, a well conceived open floor plan, conducive to study/work at home.
The available room is available within the week for an 11-12 month lease. This has the largest, a nice big desk, a skylight and a large closet. The artwork and artifacts are wonderful as the housemates, who are all renewing tenants!
THE PEOPLE:
One is a statistics expert for the School of Pharmacology. He is soft spoken, friendly, a great cook. He takes a special interest in the yard and garden, studies Buddhism, and has been a mainstay in the house for several years now.
A second resident is an Iowa transplant who studied Political Science and finance. He just switched careers tolearn property management, is passionate about golf, swimming, rock climbing and putting together a rec soccer team. This is his 4rd year here.
And the final roomate rented our room two years ago for a short lease and is still here! He's an architect working for a Detroit firm while doing an advanced degree at UM School of Architecture. He love to cook, has a motorcycle, is a coffee snob and is otherwise an all round nice guy.
A separate carriage house on the premises will soon be available in the back. The current resident, an engineering prof has recently moved. He loved the experience, and was a great addition to our little community. We're looking for another awesome individual or couple to fall in love with the space and join the group!
THE OWNERS:
We are the artist/owners (clay artist/painter + Larson type cartoonist). We use a room in the house or the carriage house for our space when in town and like to rent it when we return to Clearwater in the winter. . . While in MI, we alternate between staying in Ann Arbor and Battle Creek and sometimes travel to art fairs in a converted school bus.
(We are typically gone from fall through spring. )
THE AMBIENCE AND PHILOSOPHY:
We created this as a quiet place, great for study, meditation, and mindful living. Treading softly on the earth, celebration, music, compassion, and sharing diverse philosophies/points of view are what we're about.
Everyone shares chores equally, and this makes for a happy group. This group seeks a housemate who keeps order and cleanliness in. We are committed to keeping the space clean, beautiful AND safe, and are exploring sharing a cleaning service periodically. We chip in for most supplies, buy our own food. From time to time we share meals, depending on the group.
THE HOUSE:
The house is tastefully furnished--art, artifacts, handmade carpets grace each room. Two and a half baths. Washer/dryer, 2nd fridge and freezer in the basement. Not much storage, but most everything you need is here.
Great landscaping . . . flowers, trees, perennials, shrubs, an herb garden, vegetables . . . backyard has a gate and arbor, privacy fence, walkway to deck and studio which is now rented. Patio stones surrounded by planting beds make the outdoor space a pleasure.
Front porch is welcoming, with leaded glass window + porch swing.
THE ROOMS:
There are four rooms total, all with lofts, open tread oak ladders, comfortable beds, + great desks for study, three have skylights. Each is different, all lovely.
One room will be available for an 11-12 mo. lease beginning in mid-August this year through mid-August of 2026. It has a spacious lofts, skylight, and built-in architecturally designed walls of shelving. Plus a comfortable memory foam bed, three additional windows and great aesthetics.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD:
You will love this pleasant, peaceful, near west side location--close to parks, less than a mile to Main Street. . . an easy bike ride to campus, close to AATA bus line (free to UM students/staff). Ample on street parking if you have a car. Convenient bus route to UM med center, great for a grad, researcher, writer, artist, musician or professional.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
Security deposit is 1.5 x monthly rent. We charge an application fee of $100 and $500 deposit to hold, and are careful about checking references. We love bringing together folks who will live well together, work well together, enjoy one another's company and make the world a better place for the experience.
