This 1924 brick and stucco home is located on the west side of the Drake neighborhood. It offers historic charm, superb craftsmanship, modern updates, energy efficiency, and a brick, two-car garage. This 2,241 sq. ft. house sits on a 1/3-acre lot with lots of mature trees. It retains its oak flooring throughout the house, except for the kitchen, bathrooms and the first-floor sunroom. The first floor features a large living room with oak woodwork and staircase, a fireplace with a wood-burning insert and an adjoining sunroom. The large dining room has a built-in oak buffet and oak wainscotting. The remodeled kitchen features granite countertops, cherry cabinets, ceramic tile floor, stainless-steel appliances, foot pedals for at the kitchen sink and under and over-cabinet lighting. There is a half-bath off of the kitchen. The second floor has three large bedrooms, lots of storage space, and a large bathroom with a shower and a separate bathtub. The master bedroom has an adjoining sunroom on the south side of the house. A walk-up attic is available for a fourth bedroom, office or playroom. Enjoy a 264-square-foot, screened-in porch adjacent to the kitchen that overlooks the large backyard that blooms with flowers from April to October. The porch is ideal for summer gatherings, enjoying evenings by yourself, and eating your meals. Recent updates include a new roof in 2022, a new furnace and A/C in 2022, the outside trim painted in 2022, and a new circuit breaker box installed in 2018. A new copper water service line was installed in 1995 and a radon mitigation system was installed in 2013. Located in one of Des Moines’ most sought-after, historic neighborhoods, this home combines historic craftsmanship, modern updates, and city-living. Please contact owners. What the owner loves about this home
This is a great, walkable neighborhood and is close to downtown Des Moines. We have lived in the home for 38 years and are only moving to a home six blocks away that we can live in as we get older. We love our screened-in back porch that overlooks our large back yard. We eat most meals on the porch from late April to early October.
